Position Summary

The Tax & Compliance Lead plays a crucial role in ensuring the organization adheres to all applicable auditing standards, domestic and international compliance measures, and tax laws and regulations. This position is responsible for overseeing all domestic and international financial statement audits, tax compliance processes, managing risks, and implementing strategies to optimize tax liabilities while maintaining legal and ethical standards.

This role is responsible for managing global tax compliance processes, overseeing financial statement audits, mitigating financial risk in close partnership with domestic and international tax advisers, and supporting organizational readiness as the company expands into new markets. 

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage all domestic and foreign financial statement audits by implementing audit plans, manage fieldwork, draft financial statements and all related footnotes.
  • Conduct quarterly internal financial audit of financial statements assessing financial reporting risks and potential issues by ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and audit procedures.
  • Manage all domestic and foreign tax filings, including annual income tax returns, 990 informational returns, and all indirect tax returns (sales tax, VAT, GST).
  • Manage annual transfer pricing study providing input to optimize the company’s tax position and mitigate risk.
  • Develop and maintain tax compliance procedures and policies to enhance operational efficiency for foreign tax exposure, adherence to tax laws, and effective tax planning.
  • Manage all tax audits.
  • Research and design compliance plans for entering new markets, including:
    • New tax and audit registrations
    • Local compliance vendor selection (via RFP process)
    • State business license registrations and renewal
  • Compile and file all ad hoc compliance returns, ie. census filings, annual reports, tangible personal property returns.
  • Review and support completion of customer and vendor tax and compliance forms.
  • Maintain current knowledge of accounting standards, tax laws, and audit requirements.
  • Provide ad hoc financial and compliance reporting as needed.
  • Miscellaneous duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking/problem solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, IRFS, tax law and regulations
  • Proficient in tax software and applications (e.g., Vertex), and experience with tax and audit accounting principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex accounting, tax, and audit issues
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret accounting pronouncements, tax laws, identify risks, and develop strategic solutions
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple projects, maintain accurate records, and meet deadlines
  • Experience with Sage Intacct and Vertex O Series, a plus

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, with a Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting, preferred
  • Ten years of relevant experience in accounting, tax, & audit compliance

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Work extended hours or overtime, when necessary
  • Up to 5% travel required
  • Ability to efficiently work in a fully remote environment
  • Work in a professional home environment using office equipment such as a computer/laptop and monitor computer screens
  • Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting, for prolonged periods
